From the double single How Sweet to Supernatural, our intense promotion period has come to an end. The choreography for both title tracks was quite dynamic.
>Old-school hip-hop is a genre of dance we were familiar with since our trainee days, so it felt natural. Since Supernatural was both our first comeback in nearly a year and our official debut single for Japan, the excitement was immense. It was a joyful and meaningful experience to showcase a genre of music and dance that fits us so well.
Which NewJeans song and lyric gives you strength?
>I love all our songs (laughs), but if I had to choose, I’d pick a line from Right Now: “I don’t care right now.” It’s a phrase that helps me stay focused on the present moment.
In July, NewJeans celebrated its 2nd debut anniversary. What moments have made you feel even closer and more bonded with the members?
>I feel it every time we’re together! Before debuting, I couldn’t imagine spending so much time with anyone outside of my family. Now, living with the members feels so natural, and I can sense that we rely on and trust each other as much as family. We’re also very open with one another. I feel grateful and cherish them every single time.
As a member of NewJeans and as Minji, what is one quality you never want to lose?
>Even though it may not seem like it, I’m actually a pretty lazy person. In one interview, I said, “I love planning and cleaning,” and everyone seemed puzzled by that (laughs)! To live up to that image, I’m trying to be less lazy and work harder. I never want to lose my sense of diligence.

You love film photography and still have many undeveloped rolls. What’s your favorite photo from your recent batch?
>It’s a photo of the audience taken during the Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome fan meeting in June. I didn’t expect it to turn out so well (laughs). The expressions of each fan were captured so clearly, and I spent five minutes just staring at it. Seeing those happy faces that I couldn’t see from the stage made me emotional, and it felt like a very special moment. I think I’ll remember that photo for a long time, even when I perform on future stages.
What’s a memorable performance from Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome?
>250’s opening stage! When I first heard the intro, I got chills. The setlist was reversed from the fan meeting’s order, which I thought was such a creative concept. It’s not common for a group’s composer to open the fan meeting with a DJ set, so it felt really meaningful to share that stage with our true fans.
Which recent performance made you feel the most excited?
>I’d say the 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer performance. I love performing, and even though we had a short time to prepare, the performance was thrilling and energizing. And recently, there was a night when all five of us got to leave work early. We gathered in the living room, getting ready for bed while laughing and chatting until 12:30 a.m. We’re often tired after work, but that night was just pure fun (laughs).
When do you feel especially close and connected to your members?
>Right now. We’ve become so close that no one can come between us. Of course, we’ll grow even closer as we spend more time together, but I think when we look back someday, this moment will stand out the most.

Seeing you smile makes others happy, too. Where does your constant happiness come from?
>It’s hard to pick just one thing! There are so many little things around me that make me smile, especially the members. Just this morning, we turned on music and spent time singing and dancing together. It’s moments like these that build up and make every day more joyful.
You performed your self-composed song Butterflies for the first time at the fan meeting. What message did you want to convey?
>I get quite nervous when I meet Bunnies because they mean so much to us. Like the lyric “You give me butterflies” from Attention, they make me feel excited and nervous. The song expresses my feelings of wanting to be with them always. I was worried about whether I could create a song on my own, but I focused on conveying what I wanted to say on such a big stage, and I prepared with that in mind.
Recently, a photo of you kissing a fan letter went viral.
>I truly love receiving fan letters. I often read them before bed and gain so much strength from them. It’s not something to be taken for granted—writing a letter with such care for someone else. That kiss was just a natural expression of my gratitude (laughs).
When do you feel especially close and connected to your members?
>Of course, on stage, but I feel it even more when we’re back at the dorm, chatting and playing around. NewJeans has something we call “late-night energy”! As we stay up late talking, the conversations become a bit more serious, and the sincerity we share in those moments feels really special.
