A$AP Rocky dropped two new songs for the Highest 2 Lowest soundtrack yesterday, and the subreddit has been speculating all the features for Rocky's (hopefully) upcoming album. All I could think while going over the posts was it'd be nice if Chanyeol and Rocky collabed in some way, preferably musically (though I don't mind if they collabed on fashion, too). Which got me thinking who else I would love to see Chanyeol collab with because I spend a good chunk of my time dreaming up collabs between my fave artists, always fusion dancing them in my brain, and getting sad that it doesn't exist irl. This is what I have so far:
- Taeyong: He's my fave SM rapper, and it's a crime these two haven't collabed yet. Chanyeol's 'Who I Am' feels like sonical sibling to Taeyong's 'Open The Door.' Going by Chanyeol's introspective / much more personal writing in EXO-SC + his solos, I think they would mesh well thematically as well. They're both trying out the soundcloud rapper route, too, so I would love to see what they can come up with. This only solidified after I heard Muse by Chanyeol and wanted them to collab because it felt like a spiritual successor to Monroe by Taeyong.
- Bang Yongguk: This is pure wish fulfillment. I love Yongguk & Yeol, and a collab between them would make my day. I want something that retains the darker tones of 'Yamazaki,' 'Up,' 'Jekyll,' and 'Obsession.'
- Damons Year: One of my fave k-artists, and I think Chanyeol's sound would work really well with his style. Most of my music lies in the realm of indie rock, and I have not shut up about Black Out since the album dropped. The kind of sound I would love from their collab: Cherry, Ease Up, Blanche, Black Out, and Scarlett.
- Kenshi Yonezu: No Brainer. Both me and Chanyeol are long-term Kenshi fans. A song in the veins of Flamingo and Shinigami would be really cool.
- Yojiro Noda / illion / RADWIMPS: Again, this list is a means to mash my faves up. Chanyeol on a Yojiro track like Hilight or RADWIMPS staples like oshakashama, brainwashing, and catharist where he can go full rockstar will end reddit user nikiforovs.
- Daiki Tsuneta: Can't bring the other two up without bringing up Daiki, aka King Gnu's frontman. King Gnu tracks that I think fit Chanyeol: Prayer X, 一途 , and Specialz.
- 君島大空: This collab came to me in my dreams after I saw a video of Chanyeol playing his guitar during soundcheck. No Heavenly sounds like something Chanyeol can seamlessly fit into.
- Arctic Monkeys / Alex Turner / The Last Shadow Puppets: Chanyeol on similar sound to Fluorescent Adolescent? Crying Lightning? 505? Do Me A Favour? Knee Socks? Pretty Visitors? You're so Dark? considered me ascended. I love rocker-Yeol, and his latest rollout makes the 2014 tumblr user in me really happy and I look forward to whatever he's got in store for this album.
