[MEGATHREAD] A space to talk: EXO, CBX & the Upcoming Comeback


Hello r/exo members,

As we've heard, CBX will not be participating in EXO's upcoming fanmeeting and comeback (See article). A heartbreaking news for the fandom. We mods understand the sadness and frustration you feel, as we feel them ourselves, and the need for a safe space to vent about it. Hence we bring you this thread.

Treat this thread as a one-stop place for any and all discussions about CBX, their ongoing legal dispute with SM, and their exclusion from upcoming EXO activities. No individual posts concerning the issue will be approved now or in the foreseeable future. So whatever you need to get off your chest regarding the matter, this thread is the only place on the sub for you to do so.

However, keep in mind that the community rules still apply. Keep the discussions respectful, EVEN if you disagree. Do as you please with SM, but negative comments directed at ANY of the nine EXO members and/or other sub members will not be tolerated and will be removed. We mods will try our best to do our part to maintain the thread's civility, but we also ask that if you see any hostile/name-calling comments toward EXO and sub members, please report it.

Also, there are a lot of talk about boycotting the upcoming comeback. We mods would like to take this opportunity to announce that r/exo will not be boycotting the upcoming comeback. Meaning all posts and content related to the comeback will be allowed on the sub and it'll be a safe space for those who wish to support the comeback. If any of you decide to boycott, that's your prerogative. You can even freely talk about it on this thread if you wish, but individual posts about boycotting will not be approved. Antagonistic/shaming comments directed at those who wish to support and celebrate the comeback, OR VICE VERSA, will not be tolerated on any posts on this sub, including this one.

Finally, stay strong. Allow yourselves to grieve but don't let it consume you. Do something you like; treat yourselves. We all have much more pressing real life issues, so we should be kind to ourselves and try our best to not burden our mental health with concerns beyond our powers. We'll get through this. Fighting EXO-L's! ❤️

    What do you guys think will be the result of the fanmeet and comeback without CBX? I feel so torn, I’m so happy Lay is there, but CBX not being there feels so unnatural.

    The core sound of Exo relies on the main vocals which mean only 1/3 (D.O.) will be heard. Add to that their strong harmonies, and I can’t deny that Xiumin’s voice won’t be missed.

    This is what I was afraid of.  It’s fucked up, CBX is still signed to SM for group activities.  While I won’t be supporting,  I won’t boycott either.

    Thank you for creating this space. I joined EXO during Tempo and never got to see OT9 promotions. I could never have imagined that members would be kicked out of the group, and I feel sad but also very angry. For me, EXO without CBX is not EXO, and that’s why I will support the boys in their individual projects but not this new version of EXO.

    It’s difficult for me, but I know it will be harder for many other EXO-Ls. It’s not fair for this to happen to us or to the boys.

    I’ve seen that they’re also going to get hate, I don’t know if it’s from supposed fans or from haters who always take advantage of any scandal. I think it’s going to be very hard to see them promoting and trying to pretend that nothing is happening.

    For me, the fact that they can’t even talk about the issue like adults and aren’t allowed to mention each other makes me even angrier. I think it’s childish to do that, and even if they don’t get involved in the debate, SM should treat the fans with more respect, but what can we expect if they didn’t even warn their own artists when the company changed leaders?

    As for the lawsuit, I’m not sure I understand it well. I don’t know if CBX is getting good advice because from what I’ve read, even if SM promised that they wouldn’t have to pay them 10%, if it’s not written in the contract, it’s very difficult to prove and they won’t win anything (that’s what I’ve read in the press, but I don’t know exactly what it all entails).

    If the amount to be claimed is less than $500,000, I find it strange that CBX would pay such a high price to claim it. Perhaps they are seeking to annul their contracts. In my country, exclusivity contracts cannot be annulled in any way other than through a lawsuit, as happened with EXO in the past.

    I also suppose that many other things happened that the public will never know about.

    Like everyone else, I’m afraid to think if there will be problems between the members. I find it hard to believe that there won’t be any friction with all this going on. Everyone will have their own opinion, but both sides will receive hate. It also hurts me that we can’t know if they really want to be together or not. I don’t know how to interpret what happened in their last live show, I don’t know if there was a chance of them getting back together at that moment, I don’t know if they can communicate privately with CBX or if D.O. and Lay, being independent, can do so, if they know each other’s positions…

    In short, we don’t know anything and it’s all very strange. It’s all too painful a game and SM is the puppet master. Until their contracts end in a few years, I don’t think we’ll know anything. And I don’t have much hope of seeing EXO together again…

    I’m very hopeless.

    Woke up and this was the first thing I read today when I looked at my phone. I’ve been having trouble concentrating at work today, super depressed about the news even though it’s felt like the writing is on the wall.

    I hope that both CBX and the remaining members under SM are taking care of themselves. I’m sure they can’t say a lot due to the legal proceedings, but I can only imagine that’s a heavy burden to process that the group won’t be performing OT9 My little wish out I’m putting into the world is that despite all this heaviness in our fandom right now, I hope all members can find some happiness, be healthy, and weather the storm.

    Shit, I’m teary-eyed now. ugh

    It’s fucked up that SM is punishing not only the members, but the fans as well. Idk if I’m the only one, but the comeback kind of felt like it could be the last hoorah for the group as a whole considering how little effort SM has put into EXO even before CBX’s lawsuit. I’m sad we won’t have them all together.

    Man… I’m sad as hell about this. 🥺

    I really hope the lawsuit can be resolved 😭 EXO album release in Q1’2026, is it crazy to think that maybe they can still squeeze in if it’s gets resolved this year

    I’m split between emotions 🙁 I’m delighted Lay is joining EXO promotions after soo long but CBX being excluded is heartbreaking. I just pray that one day we get to see all 9 of them together.

    I’ve been a fan since Mama and thought I was being heavily delulu waiting for Lay to return. So you can imagine how excited I was to see all the Lay interactions with the other members! I thought surely this comeback is the one, right? Yeah!!!

    Now I feel like I’m being delulu for hoping CBX will ever be in a future EXO comeback. And I’m not planning on boycotting, but I’m having a hard time feeling super excited too (despite all these years waiting for Lay). And money is getting tighter these days, so… :/

    an exo song isn’t an exo song without chen and baekhyun.. I’m sorry but their vocal presence is too big in exo, it’s kinda absurd that they’re having a comeback without them
