Well I’m in tears. I’m so proud of him for advocating for creativity and being so well spoken and kind.
Love the way he described the financial and industrial support these APEC leaders can provide as a “canvas” for creatives like him to paint on, and the conviction in his voice when he promised to always do his part as an artist. The entire speech was based on his perspective as an artist and a K-pop idol. This man knows how to navigate these spaces so well. I also love the casual way he mentioned “ARMYs”, like yes, the entire world no matter who they are is supposed to just know what his fans are called. SO so proud!!

What he said also reminded me of an anecdote from when I was in 6th grade and we had 4-5 Korean students in our school so I naively asked one of them if he was from North or South Korea. I had no idea of the war or dictatorship at that time but he just smiled when he answered. Ours is not a country where people from other countries immigrate to so having a non-local kid in school was already very unusual. 20 years later, 6th graders are much smarter now and South Korea and K-culture is a very, very well known both in my country and the city I went to school in.

His imploring the leader/CEOs present to invest more in the arts was also a very nice touch. Support for human creativity and artistic endeavours should be encouraged especially in the times we’re living in where AI seems to be more and more widespread.
