When I got into Kpop I didn't anticipate the general baggage of fandom. Fan wars, defending lipsyncing, gaps in creativity and talent, idols with personalities like potatoes that we all have to pretend are interesting, just general shitty idol behavior…you know: all the Kpop things. I just started listening to things and picked some songs I liked and decided on a group I liked.

So do you ever feel lucky you landed here? All this time I've never felt like i'm in any kind of fan war with anyone, I'm free to listen to other groups, be friends with whoever, do what I like. Neverland is an open-border nation. Lipsyncing? Our lady Miyeon is willing to throw herself down a flight of stairs to prove she's singing live. We know the creativity is there because we can hear the songs and see the writing credits. We can watch the variety shows and hear them talk more honestly than any idol out there about contracts, how much they make, what their process is like…anything. We can watch them record the songs we like.

Like one member more than another? There's an 80% chance you can listen to a solo album. There's also a good chance she's written a bunch of songs for the group that you already like.

Anyway…I don't even have a real point for this post. I've just listened to MY, Lover straight through for what is probably the 100th time while reading reddit posts about fandoms being shitty to one another and I guess it's making me soft. We've got it pretty great, we have some of the most genuine, free from label oversight idols in the history of kpop, and all they do is provide funny content and amazing music. That makes me happy.

Go team, I guess.

p.s. throw a little love to Soyeon's kids, Baby DONT Cry, their new comeback was yesterday and is really good
