I feel like it was pretty sudden, and I don’t mind because I feel like there’s a certain expectation that some fans who give idols presents have more “love” or “relationship” or even “entitlement” to expect more from the artist. But I’m curious to know if there was a certain incident that happened? I hope not because they deserve to be safe like the rest of us, they’re just people at the end of the day.

Haven’t heard anything about something bad being happened, it’s just that fans sent very expensive gifts and they want their fans to spend the money on something or someone who needs it more. It’s to protect the fans from getting into financial trouble as well I assume

  2. I think it’s because the girls are all modeling consistently now. The gifts have to go somewhere and they’re tired of taking things in when the girls don’t need it

  3. Gifts are probably a logistical nightmare. They must receive so many of them and they must take a lot of time to be processed.

  4. I haven’t heard anything. This is much more complicated than people think (especially with large donors like Chinese fan bars aka fan clubs) so I’m surprised it happened.

They are already 4 year its about time they stop and completely normal for them to stop

When groups become more popular/successful/older the company/group always request for these to stop to help fans with financial trouble or remind fans to make use of their money wisely, there’s multiple idol who’ve got too expensive that its insane even for the idol or the company to comprehend for example:

Someone bought a land in Scotland for Red Velvet Yeri

A cruise ship for Exo Lay

A gold bar for BTS Jungkook

    A forest for IU

    A Sehun Themed Airplane

So its understandable why they stopped

  6. It’s common practice, other groups or agencies have stopped sooner (within 1 or 2 years from debut) and for less popular groups. I’ve actually seen more comments around saying it’s surprising it didn’t happen sooner.

maybe protect the girls from predator or could distract their career in the long run

like unwanted suitor? from DOM or Influential people?

  8. they’re already approaching senior status as a group. no need to receive gifts when they can afford it themselves.

I dont get why people want to make the rich richer. Wonyoung literally bought a 10 million dollar house; she can buy anything she wants. I get that IVE brings you happiness and maybe you want to show your appreciation but just buy their albums. Iirc 80% of the profits goes to the IVE members. Or save that money for concerts so you can have fun too.

  10. IVE is filthy rich and seems like they would rather you use your money on more worthy causes than buying them stuff

  11. Well, there’s a myriad of reasons for this, but it’s very common in the industry for many groups that have done decently well for themselves. The concerns are manifold, starting with the volume. For the most popular idol groups, you could fill houses with the amount of gifts you receive. There’s just no space and you’re stuck filling storage rooms and closets at the company or idol dorms with them.

There have even been scandals when fan gifts were found in the trash after staff threw them out when they had no space to store them at the company. And in the past, there also have been controversies when idols who were doing quite well for themselves have insinuated to fans they want them to buy specific items, conplete with thank you social media posts when they get what they want.

Fans have bought everything from designer bags to mobile phones and game consoles. Some fans do donate to charity.

I have a sibling who once donated to a fansite collecting donations for an idol’s birthday (they got her a bunch of stuff including a Prada bag), and won the raffle for a signed album. Never received that, but the idol did get the gifts.

Anyways, safety is another reason. You never know when that teddy bear or plushie has a hidden camera, listening bug or tracking device on it.

And as I mentioned before, it’s more common with groups that have done better in part because it looks bad when you do well and are taking expensive gifts from fans who presumably earn much less than you.
