It was reported today (Sunday Jan 4th) that there was a data breach within Weverse. The data breach has been apparently caused by an internal employee who was accessing Weverse’s membership information to manipulate fan call and other event winners.

From the article – Korean Herald:

>The controversy surfaced Friday after leaked messenger conversations began circulating on social media, showing a Weverse employee asking whether it was possible to view applicant identities or exclude specific fans from winner lists. The conversations included references to sensitive personal information, such as how many albums individual fans had purchased — a key factor in determining the likelihood of winning.

Just now (Monday Jan 5 KST) on Weverse there has been posted a notice from the CEO about this breach, here is a link to the notification, but it is only in Korean.

The gist of his message is that they apologize this happened, claims it didn’t affect the outcome of the winners and they will be taking steps to make Weverse safer.

This is very interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case. I know during Jin’s solo promotions there were quite a few repeat winners that made me side eye how random it was

  2. Thank you for sharing this, OP. I think we all felt something was off re Jin’s solo promotion event winners being at multiple events, but we didnt know why

  3. Huh. So was this set up to make a sure a stalker couldn’t get to the but was misused by this employee? Not sure what it was by context
