    > “But kismet interceded when Diplo found himself in the studio with Teddy Park, who’s written dozens of hits for K-Pop acts including 2NE1 and BigBang, and who is the creative director and lead producer for BLACKPINK. “I played him a bunch of stuff that I thought was interesting,” recalls Diplo, “He was like, ‘Cool.’ Then I was about to leave and I pulled this song up. I was like, ‘This is probably the craziest thing I have that could maybe work.’ He was like, ‘That’s the perfect idea. This is what we need to do — something this radical.’”

Lmfaoooo. Teddy was basically like “not interested” till he heard Jump. Rihanna did the same thing to Diplo when she called his music “airport music” when he tried to pitch her songs 😭

On how Jump weaves through many genres:

    > “Having worked with some of the biggest pop acts in the world, he says with authority that such hybridizing would be swiftly rejected by most major artists. But with a predilection for risk taking among K-pop generally and BLACKPINK specifically — along with a famously devoted fanbase that celebrates and elevates most anything the group does — the song had finally landed with the right act.”

As much as people like to knock K-Pop for being “manufactured”, the one thing that I’ll always appreciate is how they take risks and invest in experimentation. Many other producers (who’ve worked with other industries) have expressed this same sentiment. They still push the envelope while everyone else likes to play safe 😭

It’s crazy how things end up happening, glad it landed with BP 💪🏻

Of course Teddy was the one to pick out the song. 9 years later and he’s still the key to their music

It instantly popped into my top 10 and looks like slowly into top 5 after seeing it live

  5. Not a fan of Diplo, but he made a great choice by pitching the demo to Teddy & BP. However different Jump is with other BP pre release or title track songs, we know they all share the same theme – a song that could hype a crowd.

  6. Oh wow. I love that Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso took a pass at it. I’d love to hear them jump on a remix with the girls.
