    > An executive at a midsized agency acknowledged that idols have little downtime outside album production, but said most prefer busy schedules and cannot be persuaded otherwise.

    > “Artists don’t always work because they want to, nor can they rest when they want. Once a song becomes a hit, there’s no break. I’ve never met an idol who wanted fewer activities — most achieve their goals by staying busy,” an industry executive said Tuesday. He added that agencies provide regular medical checkups and medical support for artists.

We are definitely seeing members taking hiatuses for injuries, illness, or mental health becoming much more normalized across the industry, which I hope is a good thing.

  3. What this article really needs is an objective baseline.

What is the normal rate of illness throughout a year among any random group of 5-10 or so people? What is the normal rate of injury among people doing intensive physical sports? How does this compare to kpop? Just saying “here is a person who got an illness and they are a kpop idol” “here is a kpop idol who had to take 2 weeks off after getting an injury” doesn’t really objectively tell you much.

I was saying in some other threads, its not good to create an environment where a company who lets its members rest is seen as a “bad company” while a company that just forces them to work and seemingly never has health issues is a “good” company, if anything that is an inversion of the actual situation.

  4. I don’t like how this article mentioned the hiatus/departures from Izna, MX, and 2ne1 and then listed the financial reports of the Big 4, their narrative about idols being even more overworked while companies see record profits is true but they used the wrong examples to show it.

  5. After seeing a member of loona say that the minors of the group performed after being in a car accident when they should’ve been resting, I welcome the halts and hiatuses. It’s just a shame that agencies aren’t slowing down to let artists rest instead of churning out content without members
