I think too much consolidation is not something we should want to see in the kpop industry in general, but looking back at how people were acting like Kakao was the good guy in this and HYBE were the evil ones is really interesting, given everything that’s come out since.

Makes sense. He was the mastermind of this giant plot and some of the moves Kakao pulled were basically stock level money laundering.

  3. I remember watching the thing go down and being shocked at how openly the stock manipulation was. Glad there are (probably) going to be consequences now

All this so SM can keep dungeoning their senior idols and then get sued by them for non-payment.

I just looked him up and he’s 59. Potentially being in prison until he’s in his mid 70s. Was it all worth it? Damn

Anyone remember when HYBE made their tender offer to become the majority shareholder, SM did a whole slide deck presentation on SM 2.0 and their grand vision to grow their business and support their artists? They basically made a HUGE fuss that if HYBE took over, the vision wouldn’t happen.

Then HYBE backed off, Kakao took over, and the “SM 2.0” vision not only didn’t happen, they lost several flagship artists and got sued by their artists.
