“Bang Chan (real name Christopher Chan Bang), the leader of K-pop group Stray Kids, is taking legal action against a user who uploaded a malicious deepfake video on social media. The deepfake video in question contained explicit sexual remarks and racist content, adding to the seriousness of the issue.
On the 5th (local time), the Northern District Court of California allowed discovery for Bang Chan to submit ‘anonymous user identifiable information (PII)’ against Platform X (formerly Twitter) for a civil lawsuit in Korea. The court accepted the application filed as EX PARTE (solely) without a hearing, and the emergency application filed at the same time was dismissed as meaningless with the acceptance decision.
This ruling opens the first gateway necessary to proceed with the main case of the civil defamation suit filed by Bang Chan at the Seoul Eastern District Court. Previously, Felix (real name Felix Yongbok Lee), a member of the same group, also filed a claim to identify anonymous users against X and received permission. In fact, Bang Chan and Felix filed civil suits against different X users at the Seoul Eastern District Court, but the lawsuits were blocked because the real names and addresses were not identified.”
Good for them. I hope they do something about the abnormal amount of hate they face on the daily as well. Like every Kpop group is surely hated a lot, and I understand Stray Kids is big now so they’ll attract more haters, but it has been absolutely excruciating the past few days now.
Also this doesn’t mean I’m undermining any other group’s experience with hateful comments.

The more successful, the more evil hate.

I hope this becomes an industry wide tactic. Idols already get enough hate for random innocuous things so they definitely don’t need deepfaked videos as another worry.

Anyone who makes deepfakes should be treated as actually sexual offenders. Good for him on taking action

I had to uninstall my X due to too much hate and misinformation, and it’s taking a toll on my mental health, how much more to Bang Chan? I’m really happy right now. This news totally made my day. Hit them hard, Channie!
