Just finished and I really like this! Very psychedelic pop rock/dreampop inspired and I love that she went a completely different direction from most K-pop. You can really see the Tame Impala influence (and a little Pink Pantheress in the back half) seeping through but really think she’s nailing it.
20 mins for a 9 track album is insane though and we really need to get rid of this tiktokification of music, it’s really ruined it these last few years
Also love that we finally got the studio version of My Guitar! Saw it during the ready to be tour and recognised it instantly and was a beautiful way to conclude the album. I do notice the tracklist in OP has 10 tracks but on YT and Spotify it was only 9 with My Guitar as the last song so need to track down that 10th track (Edit: its a CD exclusive chaeyoung composed instrumental).
Not my traditional music cup of tea but I was thoroughly impressed. Also Ribbon gave me whiplash as an absolute tonal shift mid album
This album might be short, but damn is it cohesive.
I’m still shocked JYPE let Chae go full indie/dream pop, but I’m so happy they did. Shades of Mac DeMarco, Tame Impala, Men I Trust, and Alvvays throughout most of the tracks.
Even when it goes into the more electronic style, it has such a strong and distinct style. RIBBON is the first major left turn on the album and it blew me away – I was expecting something conventional Krnb but it turned into trip hop and caught me off guard.
Gonna need a LIL FANTASY Vol.2, for sure.
Oh my GOD starting off strong with Bandaid…this instrumental
I think this genuinely might be one of the top 3-5 kpop albums I’ve ever heard. Every song is just so well made. Also Ribbon is insane and either very close to if not actually SOTY for me.
**avocado**: i love her vocals here, so airy and soft. it is such a calming song! i also like how this song doesn’t have a usual structure and has a nice ending just to vibe along with it. this is a nice opener to the album to get the vibes rolling along!
**band-aid**: love the higher pitched sound in the back, i assume it’s a synth? i like the chorus lyrics they’re cute and catchy! her vocals are so nice here too. the percussion throughout is nice and is a nice contrast to her voice. gives the song the oomph it needs. and the little twinkles and sparkles throughout the song are a nice touch!!
**shoot (firecracker)**: this is a nice title track! it suits her so well and has a great feeling. it feels nostalgic but also very chaeyoung. the guitar in the prechorus is awesome, i like how it continues in the backing of the chorus. and i like how the synths come in for the second half of the chorus.
**girl**: love the guitar intro here, very calming! this song felt very pleasing but not a standout against the other 3, felt a little too calm? idk how to describe it but, still a beautiful song!
**ribbon**: didn’t expect the rapping part there lol, this song is already pretty unique! i love the harsh beats into the plucking percussion in the back. and the rap comes back and goes into the “chant” singing? crazy song honestly. such a unique structure! took me by surprise!
**downpour**: i like how she is singing to start off the song, sounds great. i like the instrumental here, idk how to describe the way it sounds, kinda like it is glitching? whatever the sound is in the back, it is cool. and i like how kai is harmonizing in the back throughout, it adds a nice amount of depth!
**bf**: love the instrumental here, soooo pretty and magical sounding. i like the chorus a lot, the little plucking synths and what sounds like a tweaked guitar, adds a great feeling. very short though! i was sad when it ended when i got into the feeling of it!
**shadow puppets**: love the nananana to start it off, very calming sound to it. the instrumental is cool here with good percussion and the guitar (?) sounds coming in now and then. and it sounds like the nanananas are in the back but as a vocal mod, very cool. i love the drum and bass at the end!! we love to see it.
**my guitar**: so great to have a studio version of this song!
overall, really enjoyed this album. it’s cohesive and dreamy while having its moment of excitement and whimsy. i like how they let chae do what she wants and fully go into the dreampop and psychedelic vibes. the airy vocals are wonderful here.
This is the type of album to have on in the background for the vibes or to just chill out with for a breather. I found it to be pretty relaxing and had a great time with it and didn’t mind the brevity. Hope Lil Fantasy 2 is on the horizon
Ribbon has to be one of the most INSANE songs a kpop idol has released, and it’s EVERYTHING.
Not all the way through yet but this is great. This might be one of my favorite albums of the year. Chae did good!
Also if you’re a fellow Apple Music user I’m listening on [YouTube](https://youtu.be/_pM7B1cej_8?si=c4tqDw4wK8cwOatM) rn
“My guitar” sounds heavenly, i really wasn’t expecting to like the studio version so much.
this really isn’t my kind of music but k-pop really needs more idols releasing odd solo albums, too many stans want their idol to release safe music in hopes of charting high. i hope this emboldens jeongyeon to release those sad songs she said she has written.
As much as I love Twice and Chaeyoung, I gotta say I’m not liking the trend of short songs. That said, this album is definitely a breath of fresh air. Really Chaeyoung coded.
* Avocado – Loved it when I first heard it. Now that I’m listening to it more closely, there’s a really haunting vibe to it that I did not pick up before.
* Shoot – Really liking this on second listen. Love the lo-fi elements and old-school disco vibe. Song has me grooving. Reminds me of Twice’s Taste of Love era.
* Girl – Oh wow. Psychedelic pop sounds.
* Ribbon – Ok, this kind of took me by surprise. Really wasn’t expecting the change 30 seconds in. Love this song. It’s probably my second favorite so far.
* Downpour – I’m loving the psychadelic sounds man. If this is how Gliiico sounds in general, then I need to check them out.
* Shadow Puppets – Ooooh.
* My Guitar – Nice to hear this one again. Great closing song for the album.
This entire album is so good. What a debut. I’m so glad Chaeyoung’s style is audible throughout. If I had to pick one song, it will probably be Ribbon. I love Nayeon, Jihyo, and Tzuyu, but this is my favourite Twice solo so far. I hope it finds its audience.
I wish I had this on vinyl, this album was made for that medium.
Oof what a beautiful album. I’m overwhelmed. I’ve been waiting years and it exceeded my expectations! Ending with My Guitar, my favorite solo from the tour. How far she has come 🥲

You can tell how much JYP trusted Chae and gave her the creative freedom in making this album. Also, I thought Kai was a featured guest, but it’s Kai from Gliico 😅
Honestly what a well put album. Perfect cohesion throughout each track.. one of the best solo albums iv heard out of kpop
Back to say My Guitar is just beautiful! Band-aid, Downpour and Shadow Puppets are great. Avocado remains top tier for me. It is so dreamy and vibey. The album feels very cohesive even if the songs are on the shorter side. I love this album the most out of the Twice solo projects we’ve gotten so far. Here’s hoping to vol 2!
A great listen through, but some of the songs feel incomplete on first pass. Shoot, Shadow Puppets, Ribbon, and My Guitar are the highlights 👌
Is “Lonely doll waltz” a physical exclusive or something? It’s not on Spotify atm.
A very appropriately named album. Beautiful fantastical elements throughout and tells a very cohesive story. It immediately invites us to who she is as an artist. A truly remarkable effort by her and her team.
I loved the more fantasy-leaning songs more so than the others, but I so wish they were longer. Some of them are criminally short and could have used an extra verse or two to fully immerse you in that fantasy.
I am a very, very casual listener to Twice, but I was intrigued by the teasers and they didn’t disappoint.
Looking forward to her next album, and hopefully it’s longer.
She and Sumin definitely nibbled Lim Kim’s nachos with Ribbons and I love it. Avocado is still one of my favorite kpop songs this year but I also really like Ribbons, Downpour, BF… pretty much the whole thing. Definitely my favorite Kpop album this year for sure, not that there’s been a lot of competition. Only real complaint is it’s too short
Shoutout to all of the people asking “who’s gonna sing”. SHE DID AND SHE KILLED IT. I enjoyed this so much. I’m so proud of her
Even before listening, the credits make me happy.
I’m a total dream-pop buff (Cocteau Twins and Clan de Venus are my most-listened to artists this year) and I’m utterly infatuated with this album.
I never thought an idol would release an album as true to the spirit of the genre as this (Yerin Baek and her work with The Volunteers is fantastic, but I’m doubtful of whether she’s still considered an idol), so I’m absolutely blown away by the fact that an idol from such a big group, from a big-three company, had the balls to release something so unexpected and experimental.
You see a lot of stuff labelled as being dream-pop, a lot of which is quite literally just vaguely dreamy pop music, but this album is *exactly* what I’ve been hoping for every time I’ve seen one of those dream-pop labelled songs being discussed—lush, dynamic, smooth, overflowing with personality… I just can’t put it into words.
So overall, I’m a very happy Once, and an even happier dream-pop nerd this morning!
I’m completely infatuated by Shadow Puppets and I don’t know what to do. This is going in the ear when I sleep tonight.
This is prob the best twice solo
