    > The 5 years is the regular contract period, during which members can only promote as part of the group.

    > The extra 1 year is the special activity period.

    > During this year, members are required to participate in one album promotion and one concert tour arranged by CJ, but they are otherwise free to pursue their own activities.

  2. At this point just make them a permanent group if they’re only going to be a year off a standard contract anyway!

These super long “temporary” contracts are a mixed bag. On one hand, we know that while sometimes post-produce idols totally pop off (think post Iz*one), other times the “produce curse” is very real and it would have been more advantageous to carry on.

With super short contracts (think like Iz*one, Wanna One, etc.) there is the opportunity for idols to continue on post-group while they are still very young, and the unfortunate reality is this is an industry which heavily favors youth. So once these guys are done with these “temporary” contracts, there’s a reasonable chance some of them will be very near the required age for military service. The likelihood of them getting signed on for another group is much lower, and we know that success as a soloist usually is trickier than a group setting.

There are cases where it makes total sense, like Kep1er were definitely going to be better off as a mid-tier group carrying on than trying to split that kind of fame nine different ways. But it’s so early that we have no idea what opportunities these guys may MISS being locked up for this long.

  4. damn. wasn’t a big fan of the final lineup so I was looking forward to see where my picks go after… this seems more likely to stifle their future careers than anything.

  5. Junseo is probably enlisting around 2029-2030 but if they’re extending, Sangwon and Geonwoo are probably enlisting around 2031 so idk how the contract extension will benefit them?

  6. YAY i’m excited, 3 of my picks made it so can’t wait to see where this goes even if a bunch of zb1 fans are trying to shit on them and act like they aren’t talented or whatever loil

With how successful ZB1 is I’m not surprised that a longer contract was pushed for. That being said I do feel like at this point they should just make the group permanent. They are only one year off a standard contract and by the time that the group finishes it will be difficult for the members to join a different group.

  8. Wait I thought they were given the chance to promote their own activities whilst part of the group but this is saying that they have exclusive contracts???

  9. so sad zb1 didn’t get this chance 🙁 but im sure ald1 is great. that’s exciting for their fans 🙁

  10. What about ZB1? They must have tasted the revenue from them lol in order to be this desperate to keep the next potential big one
