like there are a lot of imagery in the mv that i couldn’t make sense of. not saying that it’s bad, i love yu kwang goeng’s (the director) works with itzy and ive. i just want to know what’s y’all’s interpretation of the mv. like, some scenes are just normal, handheld footages of the members playing around, but some are definitely metaphorical, like why was kyujin running in the sky and then fell, why did sullyoon spat up blood, what happened to kyujin in the car crash, why was lily holding an axe, why were they floating in space, and the scene of kyujin being in what i guess is a space ship, with the red light blinking, and what is the meaning behind the huge rib cage that they were dancing in? those images are so beautiful and oddly intriguing to me, and i would love to hear y’all’s interpretation of them!

I recommend watching the movie Blue Valentine (2010). It’s R rated. It’ll help you understand the oxymoron and its depiction in the MV. I just finished watching the movie like 10 mins ago. I see it as holding onto a relationship that’s toxic because it was once a beautiful love.
Also if you like Papillon the song like most of us do, watch the movie (also R rated).
I hoped Lily would cover these in her book club. But I don’t think that is happening…
Kyujin running in the sky then fell: being at the peak of her happiness and she just fell
Sullyoon spitting blood: relationship turning into poison
Kyujin in car crash: her running full speed towards love only to crash, but she still survived like the lyric
Lily holding an axe: even if her partner closing up she would do anything to break in
The space thing: I think it’s probably related to their ongoing lore
Dancing inside the ribcage: “your heart’s getting colder I’ll keep the fire lit in mine”. So they’re the fire, trying to keep alive, but in the end everything crumbled down as the fire got cold like the lyric.
u/CromaShin posted an in-depth analysis about Nmixx lore yesterday which included a breakdown of the Blue Valentine MV. It’s a long read but it’s very well done if you’re interested in their lore.
This post has extensive MV discussion in comment it will help : [https://www.reddit.com/r/NMIXX/comments/1o6ov3v/the_ribcage/](https://www.reddit.com/r/NMIXX/comments/1o6ov3v/the_ribcage/)
You’ll notice that before the zoom in to the ribcage dance, Bae lifts her shirt and she’s missing a rib.
In the Bible, God takes Adam’s rib to create Eve.
In Mixxtopia, Bae’s rib went backwards in time to create JYP.
Facts.
From what I’ve been able to glean from the group’s own commentary on the album, the overall theme of Blue Valentine is love and hate. As others have said, this is presented in the context of a toxic and/or failing relationship and the attempt to keep it alive.
I won’t attempt to tie it back into the lore (the spaceship etc.), but here’s some other commentary I’ve seen from NSWERs online:
Lily with the axe and breaking down the door is reminiscent of the “Here’s Johnny” scene from the horror film The Shining. Love (particularly when warped to the point where one clings to a toxic/dying relationship in order to hang on to what it used to be) can be seen as a form of insanity.
Jiwoo and Haewon on the train tracks: one of them sees the oncoming train as a disaster waiting to happen, but when it actually reaches them, the train is actually a toy train, no bigger than their feet. This refers to disagreements in relationships where one person sees something as a big deal (and may even bail out of the relationship—note how Jiwoo moves out of frame leaving Haewon to face the train alone), but the other person sees it as small and unimportant and doesn’t understand how it could end the relationship.
That’s the founding titan’s skeleton they’re dancing under.
