RESCENE – lip bomb (The 3rd Mini Album)

I say it almost every comeback. But RESCENE has such consistency and high production value. Lip Bomb is no different.

Easily their strongest mini album. They’ve really stepped it up with the production and vocal performance here. The high notes in Love Echo and MVP? Take me to church, Minami-sama…

Kpop is really big on providing nostalgic sounds lately. I wonder how the younger crowds like this direction because whenever I hear certain songs they always remind me of a time past where I first heard music like it and even start comparing them to artists I used to listen to. Do these songs sound as good to people who can’t hear the influences that’s apparent in the sound?

It adds to my personal enjoyment or dislike of the tracks. When you folk hear Bloom do you also get transported to the time you first heard Carly Rae Jepsen’s album “Emotion”? When you hear the soft synths on Love Echo do you start to remember the songs on Illenium’s “Ascend”?

Idk why I’m saying all of this but it’s the first time that it’s hitting me that a lot of pop music is derivative. Doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just how it is.

Anyways pretty good album my faves are Heart Drop (just a fun banger— totally a RESCENE song), Bloom (Emotion album is so underrated yall should listen to it), and Hello XO (the longer instrumental after the final chorus sounds great).

This EP competes with ‘Scenedrome’ for the title of their best album. Their team perfectly knows what they’re doing and what kind of sound they go for, and they execute it flawlessly. It’s also the EP where I hear the influences from f(x), Red Velvet and Apink the most, they really went all in for a nostalgic sound! This group stays on top for me
