  1. I am confused by why this keeps going forward? I thought it wasn’t explicitly illegal at the time and the people who were harmed weren’t the ones who want to press charges?

I keep wondering if he just really made that many enemies when he tried to take over SM.

Yawn. This is old, and he’s been questioned like 3 times more since then, and as far as we can tell, there’s nothing there. Routine procedural thing that you *really* don’t want to go forward, unless you’re a fan of people getting locked up for stuff they did when it was legal.

  3. redditors: why is this going forward???? this wasnt illegal!! he has been questioned 4 times and still not arrested, that proves he’s innocent!!! this is old news and mediaplay!!

meanwhile the seoul southern district court: “There is significant reason to believe that the suspect (bang si-hyuk) acquired criminal profits through fraudulent means, and that these profits may need to be confiscated or returned.”

but remember guys, these users WILL tell you they dont care about Bang PD

This could be a violation of Article 443 of the Capital Markets Act. Sharing information with early investors and private equity funds before a stock listing has always been illegal. Such practices inflict enormous damage on individual stockholders. While the outcome is still uncertain as the investigation is still ongoing, those who claim the judicial authorities are harassing Bang Si-hyuk, despite his innocence, clearly don’t understand what they’re talking about.

ppl in this sub always say everything is a “nothing burger” when it comes to this man but would dissect it if it were any other company 😭

  6. vodkaorangejuice on

here they come, telling you this is all routine, not a big deal, ‘old news’ and who even cares anymore?

  7. NextDetective5638 on

atp there are far more commenters in this thread acting outraged at mythical hybe/bsh stans than the like, 2 people who commented early and basically yawned at this case

  8. repressedpauper on

There are *way* more comments calling everyone company stans than people defending him. 😭

I actively do not like him, but like most of the users here I also don’t know anything about South Korean law.

I hope if he’s guilty they get on with indicting and punishing him so I don’t have to read anyone’s dumbass takes anymore, and if he’s not guilty I hope they don’t start retroactively prosecuting people to make examples of them because that’s bad for literally everyone.

  9. so the freeze happened last month and this article coincidentally published yesterday when there’s someone doing a YouTube interview. Interesting

I will say I haven’t been keeping up with this case, but as a BTS fan it really irks me when a lot of other BTS fans show fierce loyalty to this man. Yes, Bang PD was instrumental in helping BTS achieve success, but he’s not the CEO of BigHit entertainment anymore (*hasn’t been for a long time, the current one is Shin Seonjeong, who was fundamental in forming BTS and fought for Jimin’s spot on the team*), nor is he the main reason why BTS got recognized in the first place.

I keep seeing some fans basically call out NewJeans’ apparent ‘obsession’ with Min Heejin, how the members stress how they cannot operate without her (and also how some NJs merch includes MHJ on it)… but then they act like any formal investigation into Bang PD is a direct attack on BTS…

I personally have a lot of gripes with Bang Sihyuk, and I haven’t really liked him for many years. Shady business partners, deplorable investments, diving head first into AI and NFTs (basically put BTS’ drama onto an MLM website)…. I think criticizing him is fair.

If he is found to be guilty, let him face whatever criminal charges await him. If he is found innocent, let’s just put this whole thing to bed. Let the justice system do its job.

  11. He’s got people to back him up because the HYBE groups starting with BTS have portrayed the man in a good picture to the fans years ago, it’s almost like people can’t believe how can HE do that?

All these chairman of K-pop companies are doing fraud or committing crimes, except for JYPapi, lol.

  13. He was previously investigated for allegedly defrauding investors. The allegations are ugly. Basically, they allege he tricked Hybe (at the time private) investors into selling shares to a special purpose company involved with a private equity firm he’s involved with. Put another way, they’re alleging he didn’t cut the private investors into the IPO profits and also self-dealt. And considering how big BTS already was in 2018, it’d have looked like a profitable IPO even in paper.

I’m guessing the investigation is this long bc these allegations are basically claiming that the guy who built modern day Beatles is a hardened white collar criminal. Also, idk how SK regulates special purpose companies but US had them very unregulated at that time. Like, the whole appeal was you could go public without having to file a ton of regulatory paperwork. They kinda fell out of fashion in a rash of cratering post-IPO prices and lawsuits tho.

Edit: I’m an accountant with experience in financial statement preparation and auditing. Also interned with a forensic accountant and minored in finance.

  14. a lot of people are freaking out at the prosecutors putting the freeze on Bangs share assets. But there could be an angle no one has suggested. We know the prosecutors think there is no case, so why declare a freeze? If they are working with a way to get the case moving or ending the case, then wouldn’t they use this tactic to give the police a way to save face but still say we are treating this case seriously? After all, it’s not saying Bang is guilty, it’s a bit like quid pro quo. I’m hoping this may ne a hockey assist to Bangs case being dismissed, it’s a very very interesting move.

Ok now I’m convinced jungwon was forced to say “bang pd didn’t look at us as a product” lmfaoooooo cos the timing is crazy

  16. I have no loyalty to BSH, I don’t care any which way about him, because at this point nothing that happens to him as an individual can touch BTS or their future career success.

This is the general sentiment of the fandom, the side I encounter at least . I have never once met an actual “Hybe Stan” lol. It’s more common to see them slagging hybe and Bang over pettier shit than some antis do. If BTS decided to leave, 99.999% of ARMY would immediately abandon Hybe and Bang without hesitation.

As for the actual investigation, I am hoping when they finally finish it they do confirm it was a nothing burger – because why, before there’s any evidence, would people actually hope that some terrible crime was committed? Wouldn’t it be better for everyone concerned that he didn’t do anything? And if he’s guilty then off to jail he goes – so what?

But they keep investigating on and on and finding nothing to charge? Like this news is pending a case right, like freezing the assets “just in case” he broke the law? I don’t know why people are salivating over something so insubstantial.
