  1. what… has joon really not seen anything online? this is really not good. the criticism of him is not random. it really needs to be properly addressed

i was literally mad at diplo for that post… please joon…

  2. background613 on

I just feel like crying every time they do something like this. WHY? Why Diplo, why someone who’s been accused of awful things – and he was definitely still dealing with the accusations when their collaboration started

  3. MostlyAwake13 on

This is…not a good look. I was already disappointed that they were working with him and Tedder and this doesn’t make me feel better.

This whole thing has got me thinking a lot. I personally didn’t know any details until I did my own research while the guys were in LA and I saw comments here. It’s interesting how people in power generally are able to slide under the radar for even me who is really chronically online.

I keep thinking about how Joon knows him in a very specific set of circumstances (I don’t want to excuse their friendship it has me uncomfy as hell for a lot of reasons) but I wonder how much of that is dictated by what this person who he sees in a studio and as a dad and what the people in the industry say about him. Just food for thought. Not to excuse it but proximity blinds a lot of things. I hope Joon grows from this as he just posted virgina Woolf last week so the disparity between the two is…. A lot for my brain.

  5. Found this in a post on another EDM sub:

    * *In 2020, Shelley Auguste accused Diplo of recording sexually explicit videos of her without her permission, distributing at least one without her consent, and intentionally spreading an STI. (*[*1*](https://www.thedailybeast.com/young-woman-accuses-dj-diplo-of-revenge-porn-files-restraining-order-against-him/)*) (*[*2*](https://pitchfork.com/news/restraining-order-sought-against-diplo-over-alleged-revenge-porn-distribution/)*)*
    * *In 2022, Diplo won $1.2 million during court-ordered arbitration with Shelley Auguste. His team framed this as exoneration against Auguste’s claim, but it should be noted that the reward was partly for Auguste violating their mutual restraining order by continuing to speak about the case on her Instagram and Twitter. Diplo’s lawyer released a statement stating he was defamed by Auguste, but they never pursued a defamation case legally, which would have directly exonerated Diplo through a discovery process during which evidence could be verified by digital forensics. (*[*1*](https://pitchfork.com/news/diplo-accused-of-distributing-revenge-porn-in-new-police-report/)*)*
    * *After Auguste’s claim was made public, rapper Azealia Banks, a former collaborator of Diplo’s, came out on her podcast and claimed: “I used to have sex with Diplo when I was 17. Diplo definitely found me on f**king Myspace. I always give him credit for f**king launching my career off, but yeah, I had to give him some teenage p***y to do it. He’s always been preying on young ethnic girls.” Diplo would have been in his early 30s at the time. However, it should be noted that the age of consent is 16 in PA and 17 in NY, where Diplo and Banks resided in 2009, respectively. If this took place in California, where both frequently visited, it would be considered statutory rape. * *In 2021, a woman accused Diplo of forcing her into oral sex. She withdrew the lawsuit ten days later. It’s not clear if there was a settlement involved. (*[*1*](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/diplo-las-vegas-sexual-assault-lawsuit-dismissed-1198100/)*) (*[*2*](https://www.vulture.com/2021/07/diplo-sued-filming-coerced-sex-second-woman.html)*)*
    * *In 2023, Shelly Auguste refiled her case with the LAPD after allegedly being sent revenge porn of herself recorded by Diplo. The case is currently being reviewed. (*[*1*](https://people.com/diplo-accused-of-distributing-revenge-porn-in-new-filing-as-dj-alleges-smear-campaign-against-him-8412329)*) (*[*2*](https://hypebeast.com/2023/12/diplo-revenge-porn-police-report-filed)*)*

I’m honestly so dissapointed, half of their fandom is the demographic this man preyed upon. don’t say you care about your fans if you are gonna do this, hybe seriously couldn’t do a check on if a producer has any past controversies…

Edit: Hope this is better :))

Edit: omg, lol even i was getting so confused seeing others post links 🥲

  6. SeekerEpicWorlds on

Hmm, I didn’t know much but reading the comments here, I wish they stayed away from associating with him, proven allegations or not. For an album named Arirang, they already had all they needed even without a mainstream name credited 😞

  7. Ahhhhh, I love you RM but this is driving me crazy?! So many years of being an ARMY and I think this is the most upset I’ve ever been at something the guys have done.

Namjoon always tries to better himself, be socially conscious. He educates himself. But here we are.

Now, I don’t like seeing BTS get hate. Obviously. But this is something they genuinely deserve criticism for, and I really really hope that they’ll see it and reflect.

  8. Namjoon shouldn’t have reposted this on his stories and given it validation. They’ve known him a long time, fine. But he should not publicize that relationship because it’s nothing to be proud of.

Comments on the actual post glazing and being kind to that pos too 🤮🤮🤮

  9. I am…underwhelmed, to put it nicely.

I’m already miffed about the posts on insta etc that include the music of Chris Brown, because it kinda sends the signal of “doesn’t matter what the person does if they write a bop”, like yes it tells me that if something like that happened to me, you’d still listen to the bop the perpetrator published. 🤐

And with CB, it’s like…not that hidden history or alleged, we’ve all seen the fallout and/or it comes up regularly.

With Diplo, I don’t know about the court cases that were filed. I am a strong “always believe the victim first”, but due to my line of work, I also know that exactly this thinking can be used by people for their narrative. I know the system is flawed against the victim, too.

Its complicated. But I’m pretty sure it would be less complicated to find good people to work with who don’t have allegations against them.

Overall, …man, I am very much in the political left scene and know that esp men who talk a lot about women rights etc are somehow blind to the actual reality, when it comes to their friends / acquaintances being potential perpetrators, and I’m tired of women being forced into the role of the educator, and being positioned to explain why women are…people, persons etc.

    So yeah…underwhelmed.

  10. Consuela_no_no on

There are no excuses, Namjoon knows the language, is in tune with the industry and is far too intelligent to be posting this. I am extremely disappointed.

  11. aritamsantos on

Well… Let’s be honest, there is no way neither Hybe or the group did not know about the allegations surrounding him. And that is all I will say about this now…

  12. repressedpauper on

    😐😐😐

I’m sure Diplo has spun it to all of these famous people who themselves deal with crazy stalker fans like that’s what his accusations were (since he’s said that about the woman accusing him before, per every article about this) but I’d expect a little more critical thinking about the situation from someone who makes his living speaking to a fanbase composed largely of women, ~~the majority of whom~~ (see edit) have likely experienced sexual assault statistically speaking.

I honestly don’t really even expect artists to stop working with accused producers who weren’t convicted because I have very little faith in that happening due to many monetary factors and business/personal relationships from both artists and their companies (though I would love if they did). I still think he should *not* have reposted this. What a statement to see my absolute fave make right before the comeback. 🙃

Edit: let’s be conservative and use the widely-used WHO estimate of 30% that’s likely underestimated.

  13. LookItsMyDawg on

I don’t care if he’s the last producer on earth that can make a catchy song. Gross. We don’t like Shitlo in this house.

Edit: Stop giving that dude a platform 🫩

  15. I feel a lot of international ARMY don’t realize it’s ok to be critical about the people the group associate themselves with. It’s doesn’t mean you’re hater or an anti fan. You just simply want your fav artist to make a better choice not to work with problematic people.

This reminds me of when BTS were about to release a Japanese song produced by a Japanese right-wing producer, but the whole project got canceled due to the korean fans protesting. I don’t think BH will make any changes to the album, obviously, but at least the fandom should make it clear to the company and the group that they don’t support people like Diplo.

Moreover, surprised by RM sharing his post, I hope he has done his research to know why people are upset about him being in the album credits

  16. ChasingPapis on

I… I’m speechless. RM is my bias and I am a bit heartbroken to see this. It’s one thing to work with Diplo because we all have shitty coworkers but to hype him up?

Of all the horrible men I’ve been right about, I was hoping I was right about a good man too. All of the feminist literature he reads can’t compare to the lived experiences of women, and I know it’s not all men, but it’s all women. All women are subjected to sexual harassment at some point in their life, and often times at such a young age by older men who should know better.

I think… I am going to assume good intentions before assuming bad ones as I like to analyze a pattern of behavior before making a conclusion, but this is definitely a data point collected on RM, and I am very sad right now 🥺

And please, no one yell at me or argue with me, these are just my personal feelings and you are more than welcome to keep supporting the guys with all your hearts. My personal experiences are just what’s fueling my opinion, but it’s just that, an opinion 😔

Edit to add: While Diplo is a western artist and the news may not reach Korea, it is still imperative that businesses like Hybe perform due diligence before moving forward with an investment and a musical collaboration at the end of the day is an investment. In my humble opinion, this was a bad investment and in a better world, Hybe would feel some sort of remorse for pushing this western artist on westerners who are very sensitive right now due to everything going on on our side of the world 😔😔😔😔

  17. cloud_y_days on

I didn’t know anything about this guy.. but honestly after reading the links I can see that this is pretty fucked up. I’m disappointed, and the last thing on earth I wanted to be disappointed with was bts…
also.. not just 1 song, but 5 songs.
    I have no words.

  18. zikachhakchhuak on

I really didn’t know much about Diplo and the accusations against him till he was confirmed to be working on this album. But now that I have, 😕 I doubt this will be the last we see of interactions between him and our guys this era, unfortunately, since he worked on 5 songs (*they like to shout out the more well-known names they’ve worked with when discussing the album etc*), and he’s clearly excited to talk about his involvement.

At this point, it is what it is but I really hope Namjoon sees the feedback and replies from disappointed ARMYs (though I’m only seeing positive replies under the original post, which is……). I won’t feign to guess how much he knows or doesn’t, since I don’t like speculating.

  19. blue-rasmalai-639 on

I feel like it would have been a bit more digestible if he had posted other producers posts too. But he only posted his.

  20. I also hate the fact that the post Namjoon has shared has Diplo asking ARMY to be nice to him. As if somehow we should be like ‘yeah he’s alright really’

  21. islandgirlyyq on

Sadly, our concern seems like just in a Reddit bubble. Though, I’ve seen/liked/reposted a couple of posts/comments about this on X and IG, but they don’t get much attention and are jumped on immediately. The ratio of supportive to Diplo vs those who are not was 99:1 on other platforms. Makes me want to puke reading those supportive comments on his IG and X posts 😔. Seems like this is the only platform that I can say the majority is against Diplo. I doubt they will hear this Reddit concern. If they are monitoring fandom reaction, most likely on the bigger platforms like X and TikTok where this kind of discussion was silenced😔.
