As they should. Soobin did the right move to keep that part of the video in to call that driver out for scamming him.

I’m glad. If the driver was trying to scam Soobin who knows how many other people they were able to scam without consequences.

And to everyone who says idols cant make change or they don’t have enough power, yeah BYE. If Soobin has this much power imagine if idols who actually care about change spoke on much bigger topics.

A few months ago, Koreans are being racist towards Southeast Asians. And now a Korean falls victim to what Southeast Asian taxi driver is. So they should be careful.

Taxi drivers are not hired by taxi operators (i.e. taxi owners) so they don’t have a guaranteed salary.
Taxi operators “lend” their taxis to taxi drivers and at the end of the day, taxi drivers pay “boundary”.
Most of the time, what they make **barely** covers the boundary so their take home pay is very little. Some don’t even get to cover the amount.
So many of these taxi drivers live below the poverty line.
Listen, it’s very wrong as a consumer to be experiencing this but the odds are stacked against taxi drivers so I can fully understand why they would do these things. Taxi drivers are trapped in a cycle of poverty.
So when they “scam” by overcharging, they do that to make ends meet. They’re not doing that to build wealth like billionaires. They’re not getting any savings.
That 200 pesos (less than $4) overcharge is illegal but I’m pretty sure the idol could have covered that. The consequence is 30 days of no source of income for the driver and his family likely already living below the poverty line.
If anything, the LTFRB and Department of Transportation should be demonized for allowing this system that keeps taxi drivers poor.
