>Police seek arrest warrant for Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk.
>
>The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on April 21 applied for an arrest warrant for Bang Si-hyuk, chairman of HYBE, over alleged violations of the Capital Markets Act.
>
>Bang is accused of gaining around 190 billion won ($128.8M)in illicit profits during HYBE’s 2019 IPO process. He has been under investigation by Seoul police’s financial crimes unit and was banned from leaving the country in August last year.

This actually took forever. At least it’s moving so it can be done, regardless of what outcome.

If he turns out to be guilty then punish him to the full extent of the law. Our enjoyment of kpop groups and their music is not dependent on any single individual. Companies are full of shady practices and company stans who will die on a hill for them are foolish. This is unfortunate since Bang was involved with several groups I enjoy – and I know petty haters will use that against those groups – but they never depended upon Bang. They’re so much more than that. I hope this is resolved with careful scrutiny and as little fanfare as possible.

It’s a little hilarious how hard certain bodies are trying to make him look awful, and yet nothing has turned up despite how long this investigation has gone on.
Kind of makes you wonder if something fishy is up from the accusatory side. Crazy. /s

So if they actually have evidence, by all means. But I was under the impression that even if what he did was shady, it wasn’t illegal at the time? It’s not possible to retroactively apply a law, correct?

I wonder if the embassy thing finally spurred them into action lol.
But time to finally see if they have anything, I guess! And also for fans of Hybe groups to brace themselves since now all the fans of other groups will attack them unrelentingly, but that’s just a day ending in y tbh.

I’m not that locked into this, but an interested side quest that happened a few days ago: the US embassy asked Seoul to lift Chairman Bang’s travel ban cause they wanted him in the US for something.
I guess that finally was the final straw and this thing moved forward. We’ll see if this even makes it that long. I would not be shocked if it goes nowhere cause even the financial sector seemed to disagree with the investigation, but let’s see what they got!

Omg it’s finally happening 😱 feels like this has been going on for forever

Just yesterday there was a report that the US embassy requested that his travel ban be lifted so he could attend some events in the US. I guess the cops had to take action to prevent that from happening.

If ever the allegations are true, he needs to get the punishment he deserves.

Finally some updates. If he is really confirmed guilty, jail him. And it would be a first and maybe other big individuals of k-pop industry which do wrong things gets what they deserve too. Because we had some past cases with big names from big kpop companies (like ceos or chairmans) that ended escaping jail time in some “ways”.
And if he is really guilty and gets jailed, i hope this serves to some people out there to stop hating on some idols or groups from HYBE that are innocent and don’t have anything to do with BSH actions.

I want this over with! I’m tired of the uncertainty! Take him to trial and let the judge decide because I’m tired. The suspense of the years long investigation has really been annoying
Vivid-Constant-962 on
Everyone (me included) was questioning (for different reasons) the US embassy request from yesterday, but this was probably the intention behind it, forcing the police to stop stalling and do something, either finally apply for arrest or drop the charges entirely.
The article has barely any information but I assume now we’re in the phase where a prosecutor has to review the case and decide if they actually ask for an arrest warrant from a judge, and then said judge decides if they issue it. After that an even longer process until the trial happens.
No matter the result, it’s a good thing that this finally moves forward after almost a year of no specifics being thrown around article after article every few weeks and people using it for their agendas. Excited to continue reading about it as it develops.

How many times have they asked for an arrest warrant now?

Every time I think about these CEOs playing around with the money the *idols* work hard to make, I get so peeved. Is it that difficult to be satisfied by the millions and billions you already have? I hope he gets the correct punishment if found guilty though I’m never hopeful when it comes to rich people actually paying for their crimes.
I also hope all Hybe idols have peaceful releases this year; it genuinely sucks this numbskull’s issues are cropping up to this extent when so many groups are coming back. I know it’s a pipe dream to wish his problems weren’t used as a tool to hate on and suspect the idols considering the hate trains that have taken place against them, but here’s to wishing anyway.
AfraidInspection2894 on
Genuine question does anyone know what happens if the arrest warrant is denied? Like does the case go back to being an investigation or do they have to drop the investigation all together?
I hope they have evidence to arrest him and bring him to trial.

Funny how the tides turn. Also interesting how no one gave a certain someone any grace but with BPD all of a sudden “we don’t know the truth, and I hope everything is resolved, don’t take it out on his groups”. None of the insane hateful comments for him. and nothing like that when it came to another situation that has a 25+ part ongoing hate thread. But anyway….

ok so based on my viewing of K-dramas (…so you know, i’m obviously an expert, lol), this means it goes to the prosecution, right? The police asks the prosecution for an arrest warrant and then the prosecution has to actually issue it?
