Oh wow I thought they’d get him this time. Will the police have to lift the travel ban now? Cause how long can you keep someone under a travel ban without an indictment?

  2. I was just coming over here to see what people thought!

Very interesting, kind of backs up the thought that maybe they rushed due to the request from the embassy. I know someone said that the Korean system only moves forward in cases like this if they are very sure of guilt, if that is the case it would seem they don’t have enough evidence yet (or at all).

I’ll be curious to watch how things develop from here. At what point do they have to let this go?

Edit: https://m.news.nate.com/view/20260424n30421?issue_sq=11001 this article talks about tensions between the police and the prosecution over supplementary investigations, I’m curious about this. I asked Deep Seek since the language barrier is one of the few instances where I find AI helpful and it seems like it’s a power struggle between the prosecution and the police where the prosecution wants the ability to do supplementary investigations themselves, and there are some reforms planned to launch in October that would change this? And apparently in the past the police have rejected some requests like this, I wonder how those cases have proceeded.

Kind of crazy that his case is caught up in all this, feels like everyone involved wants to use this for their own benefit.

Wild how long they’ve been allegedly working on this and still don’t have enough evidence.

  4. CalligrapherEast2344 on

I don’t understand what is going on here.

Do they actually have concrete evidence against him, or are they just going around in circles and wasting resources?

  5. Not surprised; we suspected they were dragging it out because they had nothing and didn’t want to lose face

  6. Diligent_Musician851 on

Simple truth is that the case remains weak af.

This was before the IPO so it’s not market manipulation or insider trading.

The private equity funds involved made a lot of money and are not complaining about missing out on some more.

No communications have surfaced that suggests anyone misrepresented the IPO timetable.

If the police had a case they should have pushed for prosecution, not an arrest. This was media play.

Yeah. They’ve got nada. This long, all that work, three search warrants, multiple searches and hours long interrogations….and they still don’t have grounds for an arrest? How embarrassing for them.

I work in the financial industry and can give some input. Take this with a grain of salt because Korea’s process can be different.

There’s a higher chance of success if Korea’s financial regulator actually back this accusation and were the ones to prosecute Bang PD for the Unfair Market Act. However, from what I can tell, no such thing has happened. The police was tipped-off by an anonymous person and they’ve led this investigation themselves. Therefore, it’s up to police to find actual evidence that the crime has been committed.

Second, the crime itself isn’t rare. In some instances, it can be persecuted and sometimes it’s not. Sometimes it just ends in a fine. That’s entirely up to the discretion of the law and it’s not so black and white. A lot of CEOs have committed the same crime and have varying degrees of punishment depending if they’ve done this crime before, how much money is involved, and the intentionality of the crime.

If the prosecution deems that the evidence might be circumstantial or insufficient, then yes, they can ask for a re-investigation.

  9. Well…can’t say I’m surprised when it took them multiple requests to even get the search warrant. Does this mean they have to lift the travel ban now since that was the reason they rejected the embassy or can they still tell them no?

Either he’s incredibly powerful and has complete control over the entire prosecutor (it’s not easy to repeatedly refuse arrest warrant), or he’s innocent and someone with connections to the police desperately wants him arrested.

  11. tipped the power scale and monopoly other companies had over the KPOP industry and is now getting witch hunted

  12. Everyone paying attention to this case could see how the police filing for an arrest warrant was done to save face since the news dropped of the embassy requesting Bangs non-flight status be lifted.

It seemed like there is a lot of ego and appearances involved when it comes to how the police operate in SK. For anyone interested there’s a Netflix documentary called The Raincoat Killer; it shows a bit how the SK police operate and how they almost fumbled catching a serial killer.

Anyway, it will be very interesting how much longer this will go on. If the guy did something to break the law then take him to court and let the judiciary decide. Like what is the holdup? It’s been 1.5 years!!

At what point do they drop the investigation?

It wouldn’t suprise me if BSH did do something shady but they have been investigating for over a year and dont even have enough evidence to get an arrest warrant. It seems like a waste of police resources to keep pursuing these charges.

  14. Think-Bench-8702 on

maybe they’re trying to make him the scapegoat and there’s others involved? or they dont have enough evidence cos one or more of those ex hybe people hiding out in the US apparently?

  15. At this point, even if he does end up getting arrested for real later, this entire investigation makes the police look extremely incompetent and bad at their jobs.

I don’t know or care if he actually did do something criminal here (he’s a former kpop CEO, it’s not like it’s shocking to learn he’s corrupt and trying to make more money in dishonest ways) but the way this entire case has been handled since day 1 just has a very shady vibe. Like either he’s managed plan out his alleged crimes flawlessly as to not leave any paper trail, or someone somewhere wants to have him arrested and will keep pushing for this despite no clear evidence.

Either way it’s all very stupid and will probably not affect any of the groups under BigHit or HYBE, which would be the main reason why most kpop fans seem to care about this anyway.

This whole thing is getting ridiculous. It’s been going on for years now like surely if they actually had anything tangible on him they would know it by now.

  17. Alright, as I suspected the police didn’t know how to say no to the embassy so they rushed the application for the warrant. HYBE Boy translated an article that stated the reason for the application was that BSH changed phones prior to the investigation starting. Now I agree that’s suspicious, but if it was that serious, they would’ve filed the arrest warrant much earlier.

    Sorry this is so funny.

I wonder if the same commenters from the last thread are making an appearance or will just ignore this

  19. I’m not surprised the investigation has felt like some personal vendetta tbh, like he pissed someone off. I actually thought it was due to the Kakao case, some vendetta because it has not made sense.

  20. Wild slap in the face of the Police. But to be fair, their request really felt rushed just as a response to the request allowing him to travel again. If they would’ve had enough evidence, this would’ve been granted easily.

  21. Ok_Mathematician262 on

just wrap it uppp already. like idgaf if he goes to jail or not just don’t make me hear about it again

  22. beautifulpiscesx3 on

Basically, there’s not enough evidence to make it stick after years of investigating. How long would it go on THIS time? Another year or two… maybe 3 tops???

  23. I’ll just say idt the length of time of this investigation is really proof of innocence or not lol

Bernie Madoff was investigated/Audited multiple times too over years, and he certainly wasn’t innocent so sometimes investigations just take awhile or you need the one perfect tip/whistleblower to come in

I do think he just found a loophole though here and they are just annoyed about it so are just bothering him

  24. Equivalent-Hunt-2004 on

And that’s why I am not interested, tell me when he actually get arrested

  25. Motor_Cat_6207 on

You see, korean prosecutor are the worst and the most corrupted of them all. Yoon seok yeol, the District Attorney at that time only prosecuted seungri for 3 years and he eventually got 1,5 years despite multiple crimes like tax evasion, rape, and the whole burning sun fiasco. He later became a president and was removed from office and also got life imprisonment because he was so corrupted.
If bang sihyuk was released scot free, nothing surprises me anymore
