My introduction to NMIXX was hearing the members' covers on Begin Again Open Mic, so listening to their covers has always been a big part of my experience of them, and I'm glad they have continued to put more out. What songs would you most want each member to cover next?
Lily: "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. Lily recently had the book "Wuthering Heights" as a Lily's Lost the Plot book. But besides that this is quite a technical song that is perfect for Lily to flex her high notes.
Haewon: I think one of Haewon's biggest strengths is her interpretation. Her reimagining Olivia Rodrigo's "Deja Vu" and Jungkook's "3D" was what made NMIXX stand out to me the most amongst all the other Begin Again covers. So the real answer is I'd like her to surprise me. But if I am forcing myself to choose I'll go with a song quite personal to me, "Raglan Road", of which my favorite rendition so far is Loreena McKennitt's. I wonder if Haewon would also sing it as a power ballad, or if she would use a gentler style like other renditions usually do.
I also recall someone else here mentioning they'd like Haewon to cover Ariana Grande's "Supernatural", and while Ariana Grande's songs are usually just ok for me that one I think would be very conducive for Haewon to work her interpretation.
Sullyoon: Of all the members stylistically my voice probably most closely resembles Sullyoon's. So another hard choice because it almost becomes a question of which song I think works best for me as well. Both of us have deep voices that sound lower than the notes we are actually singing, and both of us have a pseudo-"opera" style.
Since Sullyoon would most likely listen to it I'll go with "28 Reasons" by my 3rd gen bias Seulgi. But I also would love to hear Sullyoon's "opera" singing "Memory" from the musical Cats, or something like these deep renditions of "Sound of Silence" or "Les Rois du Monde".
Bae: "Wind Flower" by MAMAMOO. For some reason as soon as I heard this song I instantly thought of Bae, and it was what inspired me to make this list. I think she'd do great in the wispy parts in the hook/pre-chorus, and maybe could add a drawl to them.
Jiwoo: I think the sass in Jiwoo's voice would go great with the rap chorus in SNSD's "The Boys". Of the lyrical parts, we haven't had too much showcase of Jiwoo belting high notes, but we've seen glimpses that if standalone she has a range as well. So either we'd see a new side of her, or if she isn't comfortable belting high notes she could sing those parts down an octave.
Kyujin: Another member I think has sass in her voice, but for Kyujin the sass might be as much in her singing than rapping. Thematically STAYC's "BEBE" works well: the previously cute performer[s) showing off their new sass now that they have grown up. Maybe a bit too much rap and not lyricism to highlight all of Kyujin's vocal qualities, but STAYC is the group I've listened to the most after NMIXX so is one of the groups I'd be most excited for an NMIXX member to cover.

Lily: ‘Fifteen’ by Taylor Swift. Just because that happens to be my favorite Taylor song, and Lily seems to be the happiest whenever she covers her favorite Taylor unnie—that happiness bleeds into her voice which is truly amazing to behold.
Haewon: ‘Betelgeuse’ by Yuuri. I only recently discovered this song and the emotional rock aspect of it is something I’d love to hear more of from Haewon. Throw in Lily or Sullyoon for some sweet, sweet harmony and it would be even better.
Sullyoon: ‘Singing Got Better’ by Ailee. I know that this was her audition song but I would love to hear a full cover from her.
Bae: ‘Good bye-bye’ by Tomioka Ai. I think Bae would pull off the melancholic yet warm and dreamy sound.
Jiwoo: ‘Don’t’ by Hwasa and Loco. Lee Mujin said Jiwoo’s voice reminded him of Hwasa’s, which I find pretty apt, and also rapper Jiwoo can do Loco’s parts too 😂
Kyujin: ‘Things I’ll Never Say’ by Avril Lavigne. Since she’s already covered Avril with Sullyoon, I just think her voice would suit the song (which also happens to be the only Avril song in my regular rotation).
I want Bae to cover something by Amy Winehouse.
I would also love to hear a Dreamcatcher cover but specifically a song like A Heart of Sunflower. (For the whole group)
I would love a full cover of Me, Myself and I from Jiwoo. Still obsessed with that.
I would love Haewon to cover Bellyache or idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish.
I would love Lily to cover Ejae’s new song, In another world
I would also love a full group cover of Décalcomanie by Mamamoo.
I would love Sullyoon or Lily to cover a Little Mix song, like Between Us or Secret Love Song.
I’m not sure what else.
Nothing, to be honest. While some covers can be and sound good, I prefer original songs. This feeling for me is further amplified by that fact that there’s no one making music like NMIXX, so I need more of their songs
I don’t have specific songs for each member, but I felt compelled to say I NEED Haewon to redo that Happiness (Red Velvet) high note seriously, whether it is in a group cover or a solo.
I also REALLY want to see someone cover Ariana’s Problem, purely because that high note was everything to me as a child 😂. Jiwoo would slay the rap lines and even Haewon would fit the sass in the second part of the rap (sorry I’m a sucker for Haewon’s rap after she took Jinni’s Cool part years ago). Sullyoon would do great with the first lines and Lily with the bridge.
Lily – Ariana Grande Into you (they are both the Queens of heavenly bridges imo)
Jiwoo + Bae – Their tone could work well with something like Dark Horse by Katie Perry, I think they’d create a more subdued and interesting version of it. Jiwoo’s raspy-ish tone would work really well with a song that feels kind of evil and sinister while Bae brings that alluring side to it. Bae just needs more covers in general honestly, I love LOVE her tone on more flirty songs like ‘Only Want to give it to you’ that she sang just a little in her Lee Mujin service. Need something else like that.
I really want Haewon and/or Sullyoon to sing some classic/famous anime opening, something like Again by Yui but it doesn’t have to be that in particular. I just think their voices and covers they’ve already done really fit that vibe (J-pop/J-poprock – esp Sullyoon) and it’d be a cool clash of my interests.
Kyujin feels way harder to place for me, maybe something challenging and upbeat that she’s never done before like Yoasobi’s Idol? The full song has a rap, a melancholic bridge and that high tension chorus that really fits Kyujin’s personality, though it might be hard to sing. Really lovely/cute songs like 50/50’s Cupid or Say My Name’s Shalalala would also really work well with her tone.
I’d love a TripleS cover from our girls too! As well as a full version of GingaMingaYo or Zimzalabim!! NMIXX are genuinely Billie’s sisters and RV kids 😂
I didn’t have much about it on mind so I went through some songs to see what would be cool to hear:
Lily: “Smokin Out The Window” by Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic / “Nobody” by Mitski
I love Lily’s Bruno Mars covers everytime she does one, so wanted her to do one again. Other than that, her “Driver’s License” and “When I Was Your Man” covers were so good with the emotions that I think she could do a Mitski song justice and bring her own vibe to it.
Haewon: “So Easy” by Olivia Dean / “Gold -Mata Au Hi Made-” by Hikaru Utada
I also adore her “3D” cover. Along with her “Please Please Please” cover, I felt that she could also do this Olivia Dean song in her own interpretation and make it wonderful. Also, “Gold” is probably my favourite Hikaru Utada song and hence wanted her to do it.
Sullyoon: “ONLY” by LeeHi / “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor
Sullyoon’s bold and deep voice suits “ONLY”. LeeHi also has a deeper style in “ONLY” so felt she could do a good job with it. With “I Will Survive”, I kept thinking about her parts in “Love Me Like This” and thought she could do an interesting take on it.
Bae: “Bunny” by Yerin Baek / “Magnolia” by Laufey
Bae’s jazzy voice led me to these two songs. I wanted to select Yerin Baek’s “Love you on Christmas” but thought “Bunny” would be better. Also, “Magnolia” is one of my favourite Laufey songs so it’s here. I kinda want her to do an emotional jazzy love song.
Jiwoo: “Big Man, Little Dignity” by Paramore / “Saviour Complex” by Pheobe Bridgers
Jiwoo has a distinct strong voice and I kept remember her parts in the new album and specifically “Spinnin’ on it” which then led me to one of my fav Paramore songs. Also her tone in some of her covers made me feel that she can do a cool cover of “Saviour Complex”.
Kyujin: “All Mine” by Kali Uchis / “Love Drought” by Beyoncé
Similar to Jiwoo’s, I felt her voice and parts(specifically “High Horse”) matched well with the vibe of these songs. Both these songs have a good mixture of feelings and vocals and a little bit on the hiphop side of things, so I thought that hearing Kyujin on these would be dope.
