    >yesterday while sending my childhood picture i have used a wrong expression and i sincerely apologise to anyone who have felt uncomfortable due to my careless thinking and inappropriate choice of word
    >
    >i have deleted the (message) right away after recognising my mistake but my heart is heavy thinking about the people who have already been hurt so i am sending this 🫧 again. from now on i will think more carefully and act with greater consideration. i sincerely apologise

Did yall see that there’s a Red Velvet mini and 127 album coming??

Wrong expression? Uncomfortable? Say it like it is and explain what exactly you did that was wrong. These people really think dancing around the topic is an excuse. Now we all know what he secretly thinks of anyone tanner than a sheet of paper

    gotta be the fastest apology

also he could have directly said he’s sorry but he is beating around the bush.

“used the wrong expression” say it directly what you did and what are you apologizing for

Can someone please tell me what happened? What exactly did he say? Nobody is saying anything about what exactly was so controversial about his statement?

the colorism is so disappointing, what was the comment supposed to do? did he want his fans to start praising him now that he has lighter skin or what. it’s tone deaf and it shows how much colorism is still a deep issue in s.korea and honestly in the whole world. the fact that it should have ended at the photo and him writing some reminiscing words for children’s day but he had to add something about his color shows what a deep-seated issue this is.

ANYWAYS I’m taking my final exam today! Wish me luck y’all! <3

Y’all can downvote me all y’all want but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s colorist and nobody that’s tan/dark-skinned and or black has to accept his “apology.” ✨️

i dont speak korean but i speak chinese, im wondering how this word compares to 小黑 (xiǎo hēi), what yuqi called lucas a few years ago

  9. BurningAustin97 on

Is it really so hard to address the people in question by name?

not even trying to be picky, and maybe it’s because i’m not a native speaker, so i can only rely on translations, but i wish the apology was more… genuine/direct? like say exactly what was wrong with what you said yk..instead of beating around the bush. and apologize to the people you directly hurt….

it is truly sad how deeply ingrained colorism seems to be…like to see a cute childhood photo of yourself, and that is the first word you think of…

riize seemed to be picking up steam again (itl) after the whole seunghan ordeal, and now they have alienated the itl fanbase twice 🙁 (though the seunghan thing clearly wasn’t riize’s fault! excuse my poor wording)

The concept of deleting the post a second after but not thinking on it maybe a little harder before hitting send. Either he’s dumb or he just doesn’t care (probably both)

Again I’m over apologies that don’t even directly address the problem or the people he harmed

  12. wasn’t the first and won’t be a last. on a subscription platform to talk with fans, blurring the line, even resorting to sending baby pics ofc it got weird. an apology to those same paid followers and all else that were ‘hurt’ are seeing it through leaks. very sincere /s (damage control)

In breaking news conically online people get mad on behalf of a large group of people who mostly wouldn’t care and diminish the real issues with any slight they can find a reason to jump someone for.

  14. some of these comments are insane to me. are we really making excuses for him because he didn’t say the actual, literal n word, so it’s somehow not that bad? hello? 😭 we need to get back to 3rd gen levels of woke asap.

  15. Please go and look what koreans are saying on twitter (not the english tweets, the korean ones you can translate). If you don’t know Korean you should listen to what Koreans have to say about it…

  16. Icy_Age_6024 on

Idk about this.If he repeats it then we shouldn’t forgive(or he already did it in the past). For now,we should forgive him.

  17. i have no horse in this race so my opinion is not worth much here, but i feel like some people are kinda exaggerating just how niche this word is…

within the first few months i started learning the korean language and about the culture, i was specifically educated on that word, its literal meaning, its connotations as a slur, and the fact that it’s rarely ever used in its literal sense anymore due to those connotations.

idk i obviously can’t speak for koreans, but it’s crazy to me the way some people are legitimately arguing that he must’ve been totally unaware. like there’s no way i as a foreigner who is nowhere near fluent in korean and has never stepped foot in korea would know more about that word than a native korean… right?

and if he did know about that word’s connotations as a slur, it’s beyond my comprehension why the fuck he didn’t think twice before just throwing it out there on a public forum. stupid asf on his part.

“Damage control”, “not genuine”, “you don’t have to accept their apology ✨”

So damned if they do damned if they don’t, uh? Leave it to K-pop fans to demand absolute moral perfection from their idols only for them to create a culture where they’re no incentive for accountability or reparations.

  19. blue-rasmalai-639 on

Why can’t they just say they hurt the black community? I had the same issue with the gd apology( no wait company statement). Like just address to the actual people instead of acting all obtuse.

  20. And he wasn’t even that tanned in the picture. I wonder what he thinks of actually black people.

  21. So I am confused there are some comments of koreans that say that the expression is hurtful and derogatory and there are other koreans saying it isn’t, so which one is it?

  22. it’s a derogatory term, it’s not some cute innocent korean slang word like some people are making it out to be lmao

  23. No_Pineapples1 on

Why are people so sensitive? If you are into their culture let them free or move on
