“Industry Insider” Reaction to Heavy Serenade

Someone who previously posted spoilers about earlier NMIXX albums and songs before release — and ended up being fairly accurate in many cases — posted spoilers about Heavy Serenade, and it honestly sounds hype-worthy. Of course, there’s no way to verify whether any of it is true, and there’s no way to identify who the poster actually is, but since it was being discussed on Korean internet communities, I figured I’d share it here too. Just take it as fun speculation. I’m also including the same person’s older spoilers about See That and Blue Valentine from back then.

#1 – See That

[General💬] NMIXX’s new title track feels like Seo Taiji and Boys

Overall, it has that kind of vibe…

If “Dash” had an old-school hip-hop feel,

this time it feels like a 90s social-criticism idol song.

To the point where you think, “Would it really work if girls did something like this…?”

The chorus strongly has that Stray Kids "Thunderous" kind of sound.

There’s no NMIXX-style “change up,”

but at the same time there kind of is one. It comes in a pretty unique way.

If you only listen to the audio,

people who aren’t very sensitive to those things might not even notice it.

Also, the choreography for the chorus is cute.

Unlike the song itself, the choreography is on the cuter side.

#2 – Blue Valentine

[General💬] Long time no see, I’m gonna spoil NMIXX’s new song.

The teaser part is the mix-pop section…

Like the highlight medley teaser part.

Just judging by the lyrics, the song sounds depressing as hell,

but overall it’s super bright and exciting.

The song itself reminds me of QWER, Day6 and H1-KEY,

but it also kind of reminds me of IZNA’s “IWALY.”

More gp-friendly than “Spinning On It.”

#3 – Heavy Serenade

[General💬] I just listened to “Heavy Serenade”

This song could honestly be considered a GOAT contender for the first half of this year.

I also listened to the full album, and overall it feels like Taylor Swift’s 1989 and Carly Rae Jepsen’s Emotion.

But among them, “Heavy Serenade” is overwhelmingly the best.

If I had to compare it to something in K-pop,

it feels like OH MY GIRL’s “Windy Day” chorus sung over "Feel My Rhythm" instrumental.

But the bridge and verse(?) feel kind of "Psycho", I guess?

The chorus feels completely like a 3rd-gen girl group song,

but sonically it sounds like pop music.

I’ve never gotten goosebumps from hearing an NMIXX song preview first before,

but with this one, it’s okay to get seriously hyped.
