Everyone is eager for the Heavy Crescendo release, but perhaps you can distract yourself for a bit by revisiting DASH, the first track on Fe3O4: Break. Bae went to Lee Mujin Service to promote it.

DASH won four shows; their most successful song yet. There are a ton of versions of it, so I will try to link as many as I can.

And of course the Tiny Desk version as well.

  1. I might have to make more than one response to this because I like this song so much. It wasn’t my favorite at first, but there are so many great parts (time stamps from the official audio):

    – Lily starts with the “I wanna dash” and then it comes in harmony with someone else.
    – Haewon, Sullyoon, and Kyujin start off great; another tough line for Kyujin starting in head voice (0:20)
    – Bae’s incredible line, one of the highlights of the song (0:33) — at first she could not completely pull off her lines in this song live, especially the one later where she has to start in her head voice, but she’s gotten much better since then.
    – ZERO TO A HUNNID (also Jiwoo great husky voice rap)
    – Kyujin great tone on “I wanna dash”
    – “shimjangeun beating fast” is my least favorite part of the song, it’s trying to squeeze too much into too little space and when Lily sings it live she’s sometimes slightly off, one of the very few “mistakes” (if you can even call it that) she makes.
    – First NMIXX with the starting lines by Kyujin and the one by Bae, then the great 1:32 Haewon emerging from the sound with her powerful line.
    – Jiwoo slow down “I WANNA DASH” wooooo this is harder than it sounds, despite what Jiwoo says in interviews.
    – Haely
    – NMIXX CHANGE UP – first use of that since Dice?
    – Sullyoon and Bae lead us into the building “Matter, matter, matter” which sounds so much better in the live encores
    – Mm I just want to continue my pace 🐱
    – I WANNA RUN SOME MORE, YEAH MAKE A DASH HEY

9.5/10 song, very well deserved awards. They really stepped up so much on this album.

In my eyes, this is NMIXX’s unofficial true debut song. To be honest, I think the earlier version of NMIXX was being pulled in multiple directions and felt somewhat lost. But starting with the FE304 series, they essentially declared that they would move forward on their own path without wavering, and from that point on they never lost their footing again, eventually reaching where they are today. And Dash is the celebratory firework announcing that bold ambition.

If earlier mixx-pop was criticized for feeling like a mechanical combination of mismatched parts, starting with Dash they found a way to make songs that were much easier to digest while still being exciting and inventive — for example by blending elements like punk rock within the same tempo and overall flow. I genuinely think it’s a song that belongs in the top 3 among all of their title tracks.

For me, Dash marks their evolution from the “youthful fun” group of Party O’Clock and Young Dumb Stupid into a more mature unit.

I consider “Dash, I wanna dash” to be one of their signature lines. Especially when Lily does it. Especially when she did it at the Tiny Desk performance. 🙂

This was the first of their songs I listened to after coming across Haewon’s workdol series, and it has a special place in my heart as a result.

The funky backbeat was addictive, but I was a bit put off by the way the “run it” line was overly processed. However, the change up surprised me (first song remember), and I was hooked.

As an aside, I may be the party pooper, but I kept on being distracted by Sullyoon’s OTT boots on their It’s Live performance 😂

Dash is the spiritual successor to O.O, in terms of structure and concept. For that alone I will forever love it because O.O is my favorite song. And on top of that, the song is just amazingly good at every single bit of it. It’s just one of the best songs of all time, imo.

I don’t really agree with others here that it was a defining difference from their earlier stuff (and that’s the beauty of it, I don’t think either my opinion or the others in here are *correct*). I think it gets that impression because of Expergo’s sound and then AMND being.. well, just odd in the NMIXX concept, but it really does continue the lyrical themes of DICE and O.O of self-confidence and waking up to the world of MIXX. I think Expergo had very similar lyrical themes, but MIXX wasn’t as present in it.

Either way, I think the one thing we can all agree on is that Dash is probably the most widely-loved MIXXPOP song and for good reason, it’s simply greatness.

I used to not like this song, but after hearing them sing at KCon last year I did a 180 on my opinion of it. The weaving lines and harmonies, the different tones, the slightly different syncopation in the second chorus, all are things I didn’t fully appreciate until hearing it live.

Like O.O it is a song that I think that until I got more attuned to MixxPop I should have listened to without the MV. Musically the change up works and the transition back to the main melody after the change up is very smooth, but the switch in visuals from bad girl street wear to dreamy pink and back gave me whiplash initially.

  7. Take a look at the ending credits in the music video – how creative they were with those colliding letters. Was that when the legendary editing team started working? Haha

Dash, the beginning of what would be become a trilogy so high in quality I put it alongside others such as Lord of the Rings, the Cornetto Trilogy, and the Ace Combat Holy Trinity. I love Dash, but it isn’t close to being my favourite track on the album, which says a lot about Break as a whole. But it’s still a banger, one that allows the members to really show themselves off, with great choreo, and one of my absolute favourite change ups alongside Soñar.

I love plenty of previous NMIXX songs, but this really feels like the moment they really start to take off, and it only gets better.

  9. I would place Dash in my top 5 Nmixx songs.

It was one of the songs that really got me interested in them. I only listened to random playlists to just check for songs I would like and add it to my own playlist, and Blue Valentine came up. I liked it and I added it to my personal playlist but it’s not like I fell in love with it. But then I got to the point when I decided to check out some other releases from groups I had on my playlist to see if maybe I would like more.

So for Nmixx the next song I checked out randomly was Dash – and this is what instantly locked me in to them and made me dig more and ultimately become a huge fan.

It was just totally different from what I heard, it had fantastic vocal harmonies, super cool rhythm section, more like a mix of jazzy, fusion, funk like something. This one tiny bit of organ roll in the middle, chef’s kiss. And the “changeup” was very tastefully done, just enough to mix things up but not overstaying it’s welcome, rolling into main theme with this “I just want to continue my pace” beautifully. And the slowdown… It’s just it had so many of these neat parts in arrangement. Very jazzy chord progression in prechorus. So overall I was like “woah, wait… this is something more than just well executed pop music”.

    Just excellent song overall.

    For orthodox Mixxpop style songs

Dash is the best and I dont think its close

The bass in this and See That are the two best bass grooves in Nmixx’s discography. The changeup is also really good, the song needed a switcharoo at that moment. This was also the first song I really appreciated Bae’s contributions in, I feel like they figured her out here and have leaned into her jazzy tones ever since. She went from being a member I liked to one I now see as utterly essential to the Nmixx sound.

  12. “And of course the Tiny Desk version as well.”

You had to make me go watch it again. 😉

  13. Dash is one of my favorite NMIXX songs. This song has many memorable parts.(Jiwoo’s ZigZag and I wanna dash, Kyujin’s “I just wanna continue my pace”) I love hearing the crowd shout “ZigZag” during the concert. And I really like this MV too. This MV shows both their cute and cool sides. I really missed Haewon’s short hairstyle. it is so goood
