  1. It’s funny people are always worried about idols and their education until it’s an idol they dislike. Good for her.

  2. I can’t believe people were talking about her commitment to the group because of her hiatus during her final semester.

This is such a crazy headline – an academic achievement like this is cool to see.

It’s awesome that her company didn’t get in her way to finish her degree.

I’m sure it’ll be a fun talking point whenever they do variety shows in their next comeback promos.

  4. SHE WAS NEVER ON HIATUS annie did 2 big festival stages, 7 overseas fansign tour stops, and 4 group ad shoots she literally attended every single group schedule during that whole 3-month semester era some are spreading rumors acting like she put the group on hiatus when really they just weren’t following the group schedules at all
also group member Woochan is also in the middle of a semester rn after returning to hongik university(one of korea’s top univs), and his semester is expected to end in late june.

(+ she’s far removed from the actual samsung line she’s just one of over a hundred 4th gen descendants of a great-grandfather who passed away 50 years ago. she’s literally the daughter of the second daughter of the founder’s eighth daughter out of ten children… that’s how far removed she is. nobody in korea even calls her “samsung” because the family name already changed twice down the line. the actual samsung line is the direct male-line main family she’s basically a distant side relative. ppl just call her a granddaughter of the shinsegae family(the domestic retail chain and department store group founded by her grandmother))

anyways shinsegae is an evil corporation, i hope she has the freedom to continue pursuing her own path away from that family

  6. It’s nice to see the comments on an ADP-related post are positive for once, graduation aside

  7. With the contemplated bills on the rights of idols, companies are going to have to build in education time in how they develop groups.

To think that even in 2010 trainees surrendered even high school education for a chance to make it in the industry is insane.
Correct me if I’m wrong but as far as I’m aware, the Blackpink and BTS members droped school quite early for training and music activities. In France where I live it wouldn’t even be legal to drop school before age 16.

  8. I find it amusing that entertainment companies are criticized for debuting kids instead of letting them finish their education. But when it’s a woman graduating from an Ivy League university, she’s getting criticized?

I remember hearing about this and I think it’s awesome. Education/knowledge is something that can’t be taken away from you, and the importance can’t be stressed enough. Congrats to her!

Congrats to her! That’s so cool lol, a K-pop idol graduating from an Ivy League. Say what you will about billionaires and the Ivy League—I am an incessant critic of both—this is honestly cool for her! To think I could have possibly run into her if I visited friends at Columbia is kind of crazy
