the colorism is so disappointing, what was the comment supposed to do? did he want his fans to start praising him now that he has lighter skin or what. it’s tone deaf and it shows how much colorism is still a deep issue in s.korea and honestly in the whole world. the fact that it should have ended at the photo and him writing some reminiscing words for children’s day but he had to add something about his color shows what a deep-seated issue this is.

i have no horse in this race so my opinion is not worth much here, but i feel like some people are kinda exaggerating just how niche this word isâŚ
within the first few months i started learning the korean language and about the culture, i was specifically educated on that word, its literal meaning, its connotations as a slur, and the fact that itâs rarely ever used in its literal sense anymore due to those connotations.
idk i obviously canât speak for koreans, but itâs crazy to me the way some people are legitimately arguing that he mustâve been totally unaware. like thereâs no way i as a foreigner who is nowhere near fluent in korean and has never stepped foot in korea would know more about that word than a native korean⌠right?
